Prix fixe

A prix fixe is a set multi-course menu sold for one fixed price, usually with a limited choice within each course.

How a prix fixe works

French for fixed price, a prix fixe gives guests a structured progression — often a starter, main, and dessert — for a single charge, frequently with two or three options per course. The narrow choice lets the kitchen prep tightly, control food cost, and turn tables predictably.

It is the standard format for tasting menus, holiday service, and restaurant-week promotions.

Example

A bistro offers a three-course prix fixe at $55: choice of soup or salad, choice of three mains, and a fixed dessert. Costing the full menu once lets the kitchen lock a consistent margin no matter which path a guest takes.
